God save Burberry

Daniel Lee being appointed Chief Creative Officer at Burberry gives us lots to talk about. Lee (36) follows Ricardo Tisci (48) as curator of Burberrys creative direction. After Lee's abrupt split with Bottega in late 2021, most of us were stunned. But as many know, the streets talk, and they had much to say about his brief departure. Quickly, speculation was made around this sudden split, blaming the young designer. The allegations ranged from drug use to workplace abuse; it’s safe to say it was a messy affair.

Many hold Daniel in high regard because he’s majorly responsible for the revival of Bottega. Bringing in the Bottega Green and having the most-wanted accessories for multiple following seasons, Daniel solidified his name within the fashion industry.

Burberry has to!
Burberry has been a mainstream high-fashion house for as long as most people can remember. Most known for its plaid design and trenchcoats; the British luxury house has long since established its status as an iconic house. However, in comparison to the other leading brands, and certainly the last few years, Burberry has seemed like a rookie amongst veterans. Arguably failing to deliver an appealing show the last several fashion weeks. Sadly, Burberry has fallen into irrelevancy.

Burberry's high hopes for Daniel
The pairing of the two is no surprise; Burberry is looking (desperately I might add) to be HOT again. They hope to regain their lost hype under the curation of Lee. The accessory department will be vital and detrimental to their plan. Moreover, bags and shoes. They hope to have the ‘it-item’ of the season. Contrary to popular brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc. Burberry has never known a must-have item; while owning a Burberry bag would be nice, it is not a necessity and never has been.

The questions lingering on my mind are:
How long will this collaboration last? Is Burberry willing to put up with alleged workplace abuse, and if so how long will they bear it? How will they handle the bad press?

One thing is for certain, we will all be tuning in to watch it play out!
